What does equality mean?


The word "equality" is defined as the state or quality of being equal. This means the same correspondence between quantity, degree, value, rank or ability. In math, it is usually an equation indicating that qualities or expressions on either side of the equal sign are of equal value.

Use of the word "equality" dates back to Middle English between 1350 and 1500. It's of a Latin origin, and in this day and time the word can be associated with a hot-button topic. Equality for all people despite their religion, race, gender and sexual orientation fuels much political debate around the world.
