Leukoplakia is a mouth disorder where white patches form on the inside of the mouth and on the tongue. Mostly occurs in older people. Leukoplakia is caused by chronic irritation of the mucous membranes in the mouth. Irritation may arise due to rough textures in the mouth (e.g., dentures), smoking pipes, and chewing tobacco.
