Namaste is a Hindu expression or salutation that used when individuals meet or part from one another. The greeting is commonly found in the Southern Asian region.
Typically, the word is spoken in conjunction with slight bow and hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointing upward and the thumbs close to the chest. In Hinduism, this gesture means, "I bow to the divine in you." While the word and gesture are most often used as a greeting or salutation, namaste also can be used as an expression of gratitude for assistance given and to thank someone for a kindness.
