Some of the foods that are eaten by a squirrel include asparagus, artichokes, bell peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage and carnations. Others are cauliflower, cucumber, green beans, okra, peas, pumpkin, squash, sweet potato and zucchini.
Due to their small size, squirrels have several natural enemies that include flying predators such as owls and hawks, foxes, wildcats, weasels, snakes, coyotes and dogs. Some animals such as fishers and pine martins sometimes chase squirrels through the trees to feast them.
Squirrels eat a variety of food, for instance: peanuts, black sunflower seeds, pine nuts and hazelnuts. These animals are also capable of eating leaves, acorns, beech mast, tree bark, fungi, buds, shoots, grass and flowers.
