It was also during this time that the Romans built the first roads in the country, dug the first walls and constructed the first towns in Britain. In the same period, the Roman forces under Emperor Claudius and general Ails Plautius invaded Britain where it was eventually stationed at two camps, one in Longthorpe and the other in Newton-on-Trent.
