What Happened to Roy Bryant?


White Southerners Roy Bryant, his wife Carolyn, and his half-brother JW Milam were implicated in the 1955 murder of Emmett Till, a black customer of the Bryant's general store. Due to possible racism, the trio was acquitted, but were ostracized from society in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement. Roy Bryant moved to Texas and took up welding. He never confessed to being involved in the murder, all the way until his death from cancer in 1994.
