Poppy seeds contain a miniscule amount of opium alkaloid, which is the main compound used in the production of heroin and morphine. Smoking poppy seeds that are still coated with opium extract may induce a feeling of euphoria if smoked or inhaled for a long period of time.
Poppy seeds are harvested legally and are used as an ingredient in the food manufacturing industry. During processing, most of the opium extracts are removed, but in most cases, the seeds still contain a minute amount of opium, enough to be detected during a urinalysis. While smoking the seeds may cause a minimal high, a person would need hundreds of grams of poppy seeds to truly feel the effects.
