What Inspired Claes Oldenburg?

Claes Oldenburg was a sculptor who made many of his works in collaboration with his wife of 32 years. His wife, Coosje van Bruggen, died in 2009. There was no information found on what or who inspired Claes Oldenburg. After reading about his works, it appears that his inspiration came from within his own mind.
