What Is a Data Call?

A data call is where one uses their cell phone as a modem and sends an e-mail or fax through their cell phone. Sometimes it is used to link two computers through a cell phone, from a laptop to a PC. Digital data calls do require different services on the network than those of a normal voice call. You cannot answer a data call without a PC, even if you press the ‘Answer’ button on your mobile, the call will be dropped.
1 Additional Answer
A data call is a system that is fully integrated with an end to end solution. It begins with a Data call Gateway that is installed at the remote site; whereby the unit performs data logging, monitoring and control functions on any GSM or 3G mobile network. A mobile can receive alerts and respond directly to the Data call Gateway through SMSs, which are then transmitted as data to the data call server that manages the systems.
