A divorce status hearing is an appearance in court by the two parties who have filed for a divorce. The parties do not necessarily have to be there unless they want to be more in tune with the case, however, if they are not in the hearing, they have send a representative who is their lawyer. The reason for this is for the judge to know the standings of both parties, whether it is a mutual divorce proceeding or an accusatory one.
