Girth Weld Definition?


Girth weld is a crack weld or weld zone from the butt welds, which connects certain sections of a pipe. This is generally found in pipes transporting oil and gas. Girth welding is also the reinforcement that is placed on the girths.

They are similar to the longitudinal welds. Girth welds less than 24" diameter are made with a solid alloy. For diameters 24" and larger, a backclad weld can be made.
