Male cows are separated into two categories: castrated and not castrated. A castrated male is called a steer. A male that is not castrated is called a bull. Both steers and bulls are also called a calf when they are young, e.g. "bull calf" or "steer calf".

There is no such thing as male cow, because only the females are cows. A mail member of the of the bovine species or mail cattle can have 2 names: One is Bull and the other is the Steer.
