What Is Abstract Thinking?

Answer

Abstract thinking can be defined as a train of thought which follows ideas and concepts not related to the problem at hand. A person in abstract thought will think about attributes and relationships between objects, rather than the objects themselves. Abstract thinkers are able to see relationships between two seemingly unrelated activities, such as the concepts of achieving success in sports and academics.

Abstract thinking is thinking in which the thinker can generalize or conceptualize and understand that each concept can have multiple meanings. Abstract thinkers can see patterns beyond the obvious and use them in a variety of concrete ideas to solve larger problems.
Abstract, lateral or creative thinking is thinking outside the box. Some times to salve problems we have to look at the problem and find a creative way of salving it because the normal way of thinking and looking at the problem is not sufficient. A good example can be seen in the movie Apollo 13.
