Ansel Adams whose full names were Ansel Easton Adams (1902-1984) was a famous American environmentalist and a photographer best known for his black and white photographs of the America West, more so in Yosemite National Park. He was nominated a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1966 and in 1980, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honour. Upon his death Minarets Wilderness was renamed the Ansel Adams Wilderness and a 3580m peak therein named Mount Ansel Adams in 1985.
