Butoh is the name of a movement that was founded by Tatsumi Hijikata in Japan during the 1950s in rebellion to Western and traditional Japanese dance. It was poetically referred to as Butoh, the dance of darkness and over the years it was influenced by Flamenco, jazz dance and the American modern dance.
