Crystal violet has many uses. It is used to dye paper and as a constituent of navy blue and black inks for printing. It is also used to colourize varied products such as anti-freezes, fertilizers, detergents as well as leather jackets. Due to its antibacterial, antifungal and anthelmintic properties, it is used medically in dentistry, to treat mouth ulcers as well as abrasion. The chemical was also used in forensic to develop fingerprints.
