What does the term "homogeneous" mean?

Answer

Homogeneous is a term that is most often used in math and science to explain how and why things are identical and similar in nature. The term can be used in a plethora of ways.

In chemistry, a homogeneous mixture is one that appears to be or actually is the same throughout. Heterogeneous is its antonym; a heterogeneous mixture is one that does not mix well. At the phase level, if a reaction only occurs in one phase, either a gas, liquid or solid, the reaction is homogeneous. When there is a reaction involving two different phases, the reaction is heterogeneous.
