What Is Informal Care?

Answer

Informal care is that care or help that is provided to a child who is unable to live with their birth parents because they might be at risk of harm, and is provided by a close relative for up to 28 days on an informal arrangement between the parents and carers. When the carer is not a close relative, the arrangement either becomes Private Fostering, or the child will be looked after by the local authority.
1 Additional Answer
An informal care is when a person, such as a family member, neighbour or friend, provides regular and sustained care to the person in need of the support on an unpaid basis. Sometimes a young child may need informal care when he or she is unable to live with his/her birth parents because they are at risk of being harmed, or abandoned. This care could be given by a close relative such as an aunt, uncle, brother or sister.
