Narrative theory also known as narratology is a term that’s been used since 1969 to signify the branch of literary study devoted to the analysis of narratives. It basically looks at what narratives have in common and what makes one different from another.

Narrative theory is the study of the tools and rules governing the establishment of a story into a sequence. Roland Barthes, Tzvetan Todorov, Vladimir Propp and Claude Levi-Strauss are the four branches of narrative theory. All the theories try to study the moral behaviour of the narrative.
