What Is the Definition of Arenicola?


Arenicola is a genus of stout-bodied burrowing polychaete worms comprising the lugworms. It is a common European species, much used by fishermen for bait, burrows a foot or two deep in the sand, is 8 or 10 inches long. It has an eyeless head, and arbuscular gills upon the segments of the middle part of the body.
