The term bilby is used to describe either of two burrowing marsupials of the genus macrotis that have long pointed feathery ears and grey fur, also known as a rabbit-eared bandicoot. They are an omnivorous, nocturnal, and desert-dwelling Australian species. There used to be two species' before but one become extinct in the 1950's while the other species remains but is endangered.
