# What Is the Definition of Cos?

Cos is short for cosine. Cosine is the trigonometric function that is the equivalent of the ratio of the side adjacent to an acute angle (in right-angled triangles ABC) to the hypotenuse. It is called cosine because it is the sine of the co-angle.
