What is the definition of organ systems?

Answer

Very simply put, the definition of an organ system is a group of organs that work with one another in order to achieve or perform a particular task or set of tasks. The human body has the following major organ systems: circulatory system, digestive system, endocrine system, excretory system, integumentary system, nervous system, respiratory system and the skeletal and muscular system. Each organ system of the human body has a specific purpose all of which help to keep the body running at peak efficiency.

The organ systems present in the human body have specific functions, but organ systems cannot function independently of one another. All of the organ systems in the human body are interactive and depend on the functions of the others in order to carry out their functions. Some functions of the organ systems of the body include regulating the production of hormones in the body (respiratory), body protection and movement (skeletal and muscular), controlling activities and the response to external stimuli (nervous system), and regulating body heat (integumentary). The human body's organ systems are made primarily of organs that serve specific functions However, some organs are not entirely necessary. For instance, the tonsils serve little to no function.
