The highest mountain peak in Mexico is The Pico de Orizaba, also referred to as Citlalt petl. It is a strato volcano and is the third highest peak in North America. It is at 5,636 meters above sea level on the border between the states of Veracruz and Puebla, in the eastern end of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. The volcano is dormant but not extinct since the last eruption took place during the 19th century. After Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro, it is the second most prominent volcanic peak in the world.
