Its a poor conductor of heat, thus prevents loss of body heat thus keeps us warm during the cold season, it provides energy in the form of calories, it stores the energy our body needs for later use. Fat is also necessary for milk production for lactating mothers. Fat also has a structural purpose in our bodies as it constitutes about 4 percent in terms of the fat in the organs.
