What time do liquor stores open?

The hours of liquor sales fall under state jurisdiction and, therefore, vary from state to state. Federal laws regarding alcohol relate only to the bottling and packaging of alcohol, as well as the registration of retailers with the Tax and Trade Bureau and the purchase of alcohol from wholesalers.

Most states have a blackout period during which alcohol cannot be sold. Blackout hours are usually overnight hours, beginning sometime after midnight and ending sometime after 7 a.m. In addition to liquor laws, it is up to the proprietors of liquor stores to set their store hours. They may choose to open for the full window of time each day in which liquor sales are legal in their states, or they may opt to keep more traditional retail hours. In some states, alcohol sales are restricted or forbidden on Sundays. In these states liquor stores may choose not open at all on Sundays.
