What Types of Technology Are Being Used to Clean up in the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill?

Answer

There were three major types of technology used to clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, initially. First, containment booms were used to stop the oil and, later, sand barges were built to prevent oil from reaching the wetlands. Next, BP used dispersants, such as proplyene glycol and dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate, to help thin the oil out. BP's third attempt, to get rid of the oil, was to burn what was in the water and filter the water at the shore. Later, oil-eating microbes were used to try and continue to reduce the amount of oil left. today, there is still over twenty percent, of the oil, left in the water.

Booms and skinners are the type of technology being used to clean up in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Booms are large barriers pulled by boats to pull the oil off the water. Skinners then remove the oil from the surface.
