What Was the US like in 1949?

Answer

Life in the US in 1949 and indeed in the entire period subsequent to the Second World War was rather difficult. The US economy was in shambles after the great depression and huge government spending, which saw an unprecedented high in unemployment. This, however, changed at the end of 1949 and the turn of the 2nd half of the century with America emerging again as a super power with a huge economy.
