What year did the Vietnam War end?

Answer

The Vietnam War ended on April 30, 1975. On this date, the North Vietnamese army swept into Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, and the latter country surrendered unconditionally.

The last American troops had pulled out two years before, on March 29, 1973, after the governments of North and South Vietnam agreed to a peace agreement on Jan. 27 of that same year. The U.S. government continued to send military aid to support its allies in South Vietnam; however, the growing Watergate scandal and increasingly bold attacks by the North Vietnamese army made the U.S. Congress less willing to go along with President Nixon's requests for assistance for the South Vietnamese. A date for the start of the Vietnam War is harder to pin down because it grew out of an on-again, off-again conflict that had been bubbling since after World War II.
