HDTV was actually invented in the late 1930s but was only referred to as high definition when comparing them to earlier systems. HDTV as we think of it today, began in the early 2000s.

HD T.V was first introduced in Japan in the early 1980's. The HD T.V never hit the U.S until 1989 and only in the last few years has it become very popluar!
