Roger Corman directed a well-known film version of "The Pit and the Pendulum," which was released in 1961. Richard Matheson wrote the screenplay for the Corman version, which starred Vincent Price in the lead role. The film is one of several adaptations of the Edgar Allan Poe story.
The most recent adaptation of "The Pit and the Pendulum," as of 2014, is the 1991 version directed by Stuart Gordon from a script by Dennis Paoli. Lance Henriksen played the lead role in the 1991 version. Two lesser-known adaptations exist, one from 1913 and one from 1967. The latter has the title "The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism."
