The custom of Christmas trees became popular in the 15th Century in Livonia presently known as Latvia and Estonia and 16th Century in Northern Germany. This is according to the first documented uses of Christmas trees in Estonia in 1441, 1442 and 1514 by the Brotherhood of Blackheads.
