Henry VII married Anne of Cleves for religious and political reasons. England had broken away from the Roman Catholic Church. This made them politically isolated so they sought out other states that had rejected Catholicism and supported the Protestant Reformation. He hence married a Lutheran so that England would have Protestant allies.

King Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves on January 9, 1540. Their marriage did not last for long and they separated on July 9, the same year. She did not get the chance to be crowned queen during their marriage.
