When is a Letter Postmarked?

Answer

A letter is postmarked or stamped with a location and date when it is received into the postal system. For example, if you drop a letter in a mailbox and is picked up that same day, it will be postmarked with that day's day when it passes through the post office or distribution center. This is an interesting question. A letter is postmarked on the day and time that it is received by the post office or postal processing facility. If a letter is taken to the counter, it is postmarked by the clerk before being placed in the bins to be sorted. If the letter is deposited into any of the mailboxes or slots inside the post office, it will be postmarked the same day if it is prior to the last pick up time noted, or the next day if it is after that time.
