Thomas Moore invented the first icebox in 1840. Iceboxes were very labor intensive machines, the ice pans needed to be changes many times a day.and ice had to be delivered by the iceman daily. If this sounds bad, imagine how people felt before the invention of the ice box when snow was hauled down from mountains and stored in basements to keep food cold.
