Where do gorillas live?

Answer

Gorillas live in African tropical rain forests. Specifically, they live in Central African Republic, Cameroon, Guinea, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda and Nigeria. They are terrestrial creatures, living in the forest edges and clearings, abandoned fields, swamps and wet lowland forests.

Gorillas are classified into different subspecies, with each subspecies living in different parts of Africa. The eastern lowland gorilla lives in Eastern African countries, such as Rwanda and Uganda, while the western lowland gorilla thrives in Western African countries, such as Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic and Cameroon. The mountain gorilla lives at high altitudes in Rwanda, Uganda and Zaire. The population of gorillas is drastically decreasing, and they are close to extinction. According to scientists, there are only around 50,000 gorillas left in Africa, most of which are lowland gorillas. There are roughly 2,500 eastern lowland gorillas and 600 mountain gorillas, which are on the brink of extinction. Human activities are the major reasons why the number of gorillas continuously decreases year by year. Bushmeat trade, which means poachers hunt gorillas and sell their meat locally and overseas, is the biggest problem. Scientists estimate that gorillas in the wild are bound to disappear in the next 10 to 20 years if this illegal activity is not stopped.
