Where do pikas live?

Pikas are found in colder climates across Asia, North America and Europe, with the American pika found throughout the mountainous regions of the western United Stated and Canada. They prefer to live in rocky areas where there are fewer predators, such as weasels, birds of prey, cats and foxes.

A close relative to rabbits and hares, the solitary animals are found inhabiting rock piles near meadows where there is little in the way and plenty of crevices in which to hide. However, some species native to steppe lands are burrowing, and those in the mountains of Eurasia are even known for sharing their burrows with snowfinches.
