Where does the sun set?

Answer

The sun appears to set when it vanishes over the western horizon as the Earth rotates away from the sun. Depending on the Earth's tilt at a particular time of year, the sun sets either slightly north or south of due west.

During the spring and fall equinoxes, when the tilt of the Earth is level with the sun, the sun sets at exactly due west. When the poles of the Earth are tilted either completely away from or towards the sun, the sun does not appear to set, leading to perpetual night during winter and months-long daylight during the summer.
