Where was "Gunsmoke" filmed?


During its 20-year run, filming for the American Western epic "Gunsmoke" took place at more than a dozen different locations and stages throughout California, Arizona and Utah.

Interior scenes for the series were filmed in various television studios, including the CBS Studio Center, California Studios and Hollywood Center Studios, all located in Los Angeles. The iconic outdoor environments of the series were primarily filmed at Big Sky Ranch in Simi Valley, Calif., and at the Kanab Movie Ranch and Johnson Canyon Movie Set near Kanab, Utah. These same exterior locations appeared in nearly every major Hollywood western of the '50s and '60s, and numerous other locations were used for specific story lines when necessary.
