It is unknown who actually first invented keys. Locks were used in Ancient Egypt that required keys. That was over 4, 000 years ago, so we know keys have been around at least that long.
There has been evidence that the was lock and key was used by the Egyptians over four-thousand years ago. Because the key was invented such a long time ago there has never been enough information to determine exactly who invented the first key.
