Who Invented the Force Meter?

Henry Cavendish invented the force meter with his Cavendish experiment that was performed in 1798. It was the first experiment to measure the force of gravity between masses in the laboratory and it was the first to yield accurate values for the gravitational constant. He measured G implicitly, using a torsion balance.
