Edwin Beard Budding (1795-1846) was the English engineer who invented the lawn mower. Budding joined forces with another engineer, John Ferrabee, and they began making lawn mowers from 1830.

The first lawn mower was invented by Edwin Budding in 1827 in Thrupp, Glooucestershire. Budding's mower was designed primarily to cut the lawn on sports grounds and expensive gardens as a superior alternative to the scythe, and was patented in 1830.
