Paper cups were introduced in 1907 which was invented by Lawrence Luellen. Luellen designed the cups and an ice-cooled water-vending machine to replace the unhygienic public cup method that was standard on trains and in schools. His cups were first branded Health Kups, but in 1919 it was renamed to Dixie.

Paper cups were invented by Lawrence Luellen in 1907. Then he developed the first water-vending machine with disposable cups which he did because then they used to drink water through a water barrel, well pump or spigot with a cup shared by the community and was a health risk due to the spread of germs.
