Writing is thought to have been invented in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) in 3500B.C. There were clay tablets dating 3200 B.C. that were unearthed by Oriental Institute archaeologists at the site of 'Tell Asmar' in Iraq. The writings are simple pictures and pictograms with various messages.
