"Gloria" was written and performed by Van Morrison, who was at the time, the lead singer in Them, a garage band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Van Morrison went on release "Brown Eyed Girl."

The song was released in December 1964 as the B-side of the Them single "Baby Please Don' t Go."

Because of its easy listening and guitar chords, Gloria has been covered by many artists including Patti Smith and The Doors. It has also been used in movies such as 1983's "The Outsiders." The song was listed at No. 208 in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
