Why Is a Boxing Ring Square?

Answer

Boxing rings were originally round when they were Roman, and like the Coliseum in Rome, seats of the spectators were built around in stone seats so as to watch them fight it out to the death. The ring was later made to a square since boxing has evolved and the game does not end with one opponent dead. The corners were made to restrict them from killing each other.

The reason why the boxing ring is square is because the earliest boxing rules dictated that it should be made like that. The first official rules were made in 1838 and they were known as the London Prize Ring Rules and up to now nothing much has changed.
