Why Are Everton FC Called the Toffees?

Everton FC is nicknamed the Toffees or The Toffeemen and this came up after Everton had moved to Goodison. There was a toffee shop, which advertised and sold sweets, including the Everton Mint and it was located opposite where Everton crest is based.

It could be because they used to hold Football meetings at the Queen`s Head Hotel, and near by there was a house called ye old ancient toffee house the word toffee was also a slang
