The cause of the fall of the Holbeck Hotel was a landslide due to a torrential downpour of rainfall measuring 140mm in the two months before the destruction of the hotel happened. The Holbeck landslide, as it came to be called, attracted a lot of interest on the night of the 3rd to the 5th of June 1993.
