Why Did Odysseus Leave Ithaca?

Answer

According to Homer's Iliad, Odysseus left his island home of Ithaca after Helen ran away with Paris, causing all of Helen's former suitors, of which Odysseus was one, to help Menelaus (her husband) retrieve her. This led to the start of the Trojan War. However, Odysseus did try to avoid leaving Ithaca by pretending he was crazy.
