Why Did Sheffield Grow?

Answer

In history the city of Sheffield grew in 1296 when it was made a market town. In the 14th century it was noted for the production of knives and in 1600s it became the main centre of cutlery manufacture in England. In the year 1740 crucible steel was discovered in the region leading to Sheffield growing into an industrial town.
